Why Did He Come At All?

Daily News, Pakistan

It is obvious that the more Musharraf is seen to be dependant on Dubya for holding on to power in Pakistan, and there are several instances in which he has made careless remarks such as “The president (Bush) has not asked me to remove my uniform” or words to that effect, the more lightly will Dubya take him

So then, Dubya has come in the dead of night in a blacked out Air Force One, its landing lights off, window shades pulled down; and twenty-four (-two?) hours later has gone in the dead of night, in a blacked out Air Force One, its landing lights off, window shades pulled down. Surreptitiously and quietly did he come; and very surreptitiously and very quietly did he go through what in the vernacular is known as the “chor darwaza”, in between spreading chaos as is his wont, leaving his “tight” buddy to pick up the debris.

So unusual was his arrival and departure in this quite unusual country, that he and his wife did not even use the door of the giant aircraft meant for boarding and exiting but the little emergency hatch under the wing which opens downwards and has stairs on the inside. Probably to present as small a target as possible to someone who would do them harm. Well my countrymen, what a slap on our collective face, that not even an honoured friend can be received in an appropriate manner in the Citadel of Islam.
