Bombing at Gas Pipeline in Pakistan Kills 7-Year-Old Girl
QUETTA, Pakistan - A powerful bomb blew up a gas pipeline in a remote town of southwestern Pakistan on Wednesday, killing a 7-year-old girl, an official said.
Mah Noor was on her way to school with her mother when the bomb exploded at the pipeline, which runs through their town of Sui in Baluchistan province, said Abdul Samad Lasi, the top government official in the region.
The mother and another passer-by were wounded, he said.
Sui lies about 215 miles east of the provincial capital of Quetta, where authorities have deployed thousands of troops to safeguard the country's main gas facilities.
Renegade tribesmen often target pipelines and security forces in the region in an effort to extract greater royalties from the government for resources extracted from their land.
